Be an AIDER: Five steps for new Tech Leads to structure their people leadership

ABSTRACT

Many new tech leads struggle with people leadership. It can be confusing to go from individual contributor to enabler of teams and people. Many existing learning resources rely heavily on qualitative reports and general advice, which can be difficult to parse and apply for those only just taking their first steps in the tech lead role. In this talk, we’ll demystify this aspect of being a tech lead and take a gardener’s perspective on growing our teams. Using the easy-to-follow AIDER framework, we’ll identify five clear steps any beginning tech lead can take to nourish individuals and cultivate great teams.
